NAM Panel Member, Hon. John P. DiBlasi, has authored the featured article in the November 26, 2012 Alternative Dispute Resolution Special Section of the New York Law Journal.
Entitled "Maximize Your Potential for Success at Mediation", Judge DiBlasi offers a first hand account of the mediation session with valuable suggestions and tips to maximize counsel’s success at mediation. The article focuses on the process itself, what can be done to improve counsel’s chances for success and what common mistakes may be avoided. In walking the reader through the mediation process, Judge DiBlasi addresses how to best prepare for the mediation, as well as how to handle the joint and break-out sessions, an impasse, execution of the post-mediation agreement and what to do if the case does not settle.
Judge DiBlasi has been named by the New York Law Journal Reader Rankings as one of the top two mediators in New York State in 2010, 2011 and 2012. The 2012 New York Law Journal Reader Rankings Survey voted Judge DiBlasi into the #1 spot in the "Best International Mediator" category, and into the top 5 "Best Financial Markets Mediator" category. Judge DiBlasi has mediated over 2000 cases and facilitated the settlement of complex commercial matters involving contracts, employment, entertainment law, real property/land use matters, in addition to complex personal injury and labor law matters. He is the former presiding Justice of the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court of the State of New York and creator of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program used successfully by the Supreme Court, Westchester County.
