FORMER NEW YORK APPELLATE COURT JUSTICE, JOHN COPERTINO, TO PROVIDE ARBITRATION AND MEDIATION SERVICES WITH NAM

GARDEN CITY, NY - National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) is honored to announce that Justice John Copertino will become a member of its distinguished panel of Hearing Officers. Justice Copertino will be available to resolve matters both on Long Island and in the Metro New York region. He joins NAM'S national roster of more than 1,700 top-tier judges and practicing specialists.

Justice Copertino has presided over numerous high profile civil and criminal cases in his 36 years on the bench, including the much-publicized Northport cult killing. Prior to his judicial career, he tried many noteworthy cases as a former Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney.

NAM's CEO Roy Israel said, "Having access to highly-recognized, knowledgeable and well-respected Arbitrators and Mediators is crucially important to the ADR consumer. Along these lines, we are proud to have Justice Copertino's expertise available to our clients and are delighted about his inclusion to our panel.

"I am looking forward to pursuing a private ADR career with NAM," said Justice Copertino. "NAM's highly respected panel of judges and expert staff make it an ideal forum for resolving the most difficult disputes. As an Arbitrator and Mediator, this is an appealing opportunity."

Justice Copertino served as an Associate Judge in the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court from 1991 to 1998. Upon retirement, he returned to trial court presiding over criminal as well as civil cases until 2004.

Before being appointed to the Appellate Division, Justice Copertino was elected to the Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District in 1988. He also served as a Suffolk County District Court Judge from 1969 to 1977 and a County Court Judge from 1978 to 1987.

Justice Copertino began his legal career in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office where he served for more than four years as a trial assistant, Chief of the Indictments Bureau and Chief of the Appeals Bureau.

Justice Copertino is a graduate of City College of New York and Fordham University of Law. He served in the United States Army Counter-Intelligence Corps from 1951 to 1953.
