After an illustrious and longstanding legal career in public life as a New York State Senator, a Supreme Court Justice, and as an Administrative Judge for Queens County, New York, the Honorable Jeremy S. Weinstein is applying his vast wealth of knowledge and experience to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a Hearing Officer for NAM. Judge Weinstein’s years of dedicated public service have given him a unique familiarity and understanding of a wide variety of case types including commercial, construction, medical malpractice, and personal injury. Since joining NAM, he has heard cases on general commercial matters and personal injury cases, including auto, SUM/UM, slip and fall, premises liability, and construction. Judge Weinstein is a hard-working and detail-oriented jurist known for his intelligence, patience, and ability to assist in the resolution of even the most complex and contentious cases.

Judge Weinstein’s distinguished legal career began as Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the State of New York where he served from 1975 to 1976, after which, until his election to the State Senate, he served as Associate Counsel to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly. In 1979, he was elected a member of the New York State Senate where he served with pride until 1992. During his fourteen years spent in the Senate, he served on the Judiciary Committee, the Codes Committee, the Banking Committee, and the Crime and Corrections Committee. While he served as ranking member of the Crime and Corrections Committee, he sat as Chair of the Senate Democratic Task Force on Crime and sponsored numerous bills dealing with parole, probation, civil practice, and the judiciary. His significant appointments during his tenure in the Senate included Assistant Minority Whip, Minority Whip, and Assistant Minority Leader – Floor Operations.

Judge Weinstein maintained a successful private practice of law for 15 years until his election in 1993 as Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York. That began a distinguished and celebrated 25-year judicial career. In 1997, he was appointed Acting Supreme Court Justice and then Supervising Judge of the Queens County Civil Court. Two years later, he was elected and re-elected Justice of the Queens Supreme Court, 11th District, Civil Term, Queens County, New York. In 2007, Judge Weinstein was appointed Administrative Judge of the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term, and shortly thereafter, he was also appointed Acting Administrative Judge of the Queens Supreme Court, Criminal Term where he served for more than a year, concurrently with his Civil Term duties. In 2009, Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau appointed Justice Weinstein as Administrative Judge for Civil Matters in the 11th Judicial District, Queens County, where he served with distinction for the next 10 years until his retirement in 2019.

An avid supporter of ADR, he is an extremely skilled mediator who has the aptitude to handle all manner of case types, from the simplest to the most complex cases and legal issues. Judge Weinstein is a hard-working and detail-oriented jurist known for his intelligence, patience, and ability to assist in the resolution of even the most complex and contentious cases. Among his many accomplishments while serving as Administrative Judge for the Queens County court, Judge Weinstein created a dedicated Matrimonial Part to address issues related to child support, visitation, and related financial issues. He oversaw the development of a Foreclosure Part and a free Uncontested Matrimonial Clinic, where people received assistance in uncontested divorces with no property, support, or custody issues.

Judge Weinstein was an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at his alma mater, York College, City University of New York. He has also served as a member of his local community planning board in Queens and as a member of many civic, fraternal, and religious organizations.
