Prior to joining NAM, Ms. Alson served for many years as the Senior Negotiator for the Tort Division of the New York City Law Department. As Senior Negotiator, she was responsible for handling all high exposure and high-profile cases, while also managing and supervising the large volume of settlements throughout the City. While working with the risk and insurance divisions to resolve indemnity and coverage issues, Ms. Alson provided legal and strategic insight to supervisory and trial staff to achieve global settlements of complex matters. Since joining NAM, she has successfully mediated a variety of personal injury cases involving slip and fall and premises liability.
Ms. Alson has settled thousands of cases, many for seven and even eight figures, negotiating directly with counsel, at private mediations, and at conferences in all state and federal courts in New York City. She has handled cases in a wide array of practice areas including personal injury matters, such as negligence in premises and motor vehicle accidents, professional malpractice, toxic torts, civil rights, and labor law. These cases often involved catastrophic injuries and large economic loss claims.
Prior to her work for the City of New York, Ms. Alson was in private practice as the managing attorney for a medical malpractice firm, overseeing cases from intake to resolution. She served as General Counsel for the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival where she counseled on all business issues. Ms. Alson was also a Hearing Officer for the Supreme Court of New York resolving small property tax challenges, an adjunct Professor at New York Law School, and a founding partner in a firm specializing in civil litigation, where she learned to balance the practical realities of the business of law with the effective and fair resolution of disputes through negotiated agreements.
Ms. Alson’s ability to broker unlikely compromises and her boundless passion for creative analysis provide a successful formula for settling cases.
