Honorable Michael J. Seng (Ret.) has an extensive range of experience in civil litigation on both sides of general civil litigation cases, in disputes involving tax, business, real estate and estate planning, personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, contract, Uniform Commercial Code, property, crop loss, and domestic relations. He has worked as an arbitrator, mediator, and also represented parties in arbitrations and mediations. His ADR experience has extended over his career as a practicing lawyer and a judge, which has given him a unique opportunity to understand every aspect of a case and the importance of a neutral.

Throughout his career and up until he took the bench, Hon. Judge Seng’s practice focused on attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, and banking professionals in malpractice actions, allowing him to develop ethical and practice standards of care applicable to a range of matters from domestic relations to toxic tort. From 1995 through 2006, he served as a Fresno County Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore, acting as an arbitrator or a settlement conference judge/mediator in approximately 70 cases. In the latter part of his practice, Judge Seng dealt with bankruptcy preference issues, fraudulent conveyances, and ERISA issues. In 2010, the judges of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California selected Judge Seng to serve an eight-year term as U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of California. Judge Seng not only presided over all criminal cases originating in Yosemite National Park, but also over the full range of civil cases originating in the Fresno federal court, trying over 35 cases to judgement/verdict and presided over discovery, disputes, and settlement sessions.

Judge Seng is available to arbitrate and mediate matters throughout the states of California and Tennessee.
